Above are my two favorite sculptures i found in the museum. The first was a bust of Marsyas created by Balthasar Permoser around 1680. It tells the story of Marsyas, who was foolish enough to challenge Apollo to a musical duel. after apollo's victory Marsyas was flayed alive. this sculpture catches the emotion and agony of Marsyas right before death. The second piece, is a part of a Marble statue of Dionysos. Dionysis was the god of wine and divine intoxication. The detail of the fabric on this form fascinated me, and i even pushed the design sense when sketching above. (if confused it is a skirt another layer of cloth draped around; by the waist) The creator of this is unknown, but it was restored by Vincenzo Pacetti, an Italian sculptor in the early 18th century.
